Much progress has been made in recent years in treating tobacco dependence. There are now several FDA approved medications to help smokers quit smoking.
In Dr. Chacko’s office-based addiction treatment program, Orlando Addiction Medicine, he prescribes the latest FDA approved medications to help quit smoking cigarettes.
These medications include Chantix, bupropion, nicotine inhaler and nicotine nasal spray. In addition, Nortriptyline and Clonidine (which comes in both oral and transdermal forms) have been found to be effective in helping smokers quit smoking.
For some smokers a combination of two or more medications works better than a single medicine.
